Hillsdale Beauty College was established in 1928 under the name of Riggs School of Beauty Culture by Ina H. Riggs and her daughter Leah Riggs Hay.  The school was operated by Mrs. Riggs until her death in 1953.

Ms. Ruth Marvin purchased the school and moved it to its present location in 1957.  Ms. Marvin led the school to become one of the finest beauty schools in the state of Michigan.  Upon her retirement, Ms. Marvin sold the school to Mrs. Darlene Feller, and it was again sold to Stephen and Judy Smith in 1987.

Diane Kwiatkowski became the Education Director in 1988.  Diane and Gerald Kwiatkowski became owners in January 2000.  Diane graduated from the Select Beauty Academy in 1968, and graduated as an Instructor from the Edward’s School of Cosmetology in 1973.  Gerald graduated from Western Michigan University and Central Michigan University.
